HOMEGROWN ALBERTA SHORTS
A program of various short films produced in the last 2 years from local, emerging and established Alberta film talents. program still to come but will feature works by former Red Deer residents, Trevor Anderson (The Island, featured at Berlin's Berlinale Festival of Film early '09) and Spencer Estabrooks (Deadwalkers).
Saturday, Oct. 3rd: 6:30pm to 8:30pm, Matchbox,
FEATURE #1 - WORLD PREMIERE EDDIES: A Documentary (ALBERTA, 70min) Director Michael Peterson.
The film is a light hearted look at the cult-like surroundings of Calgary's own Big Rock Brewing's Annual Fundraising event, The Eddies, and the various groups of eclectic film auteurs and amateurs that make 30 second commercials in order to win the $10,000 Top Prize. DIRECTOR MICHAEL PETERSON in ATTENDANCE.

FEATURE #2 - HOPE FOR THE BROKEN CONTENDER (ALBERTA, 120min) Director Chris Scheurmann.
The film is the story Ryan Yule, a young man mixed up in the drug trade, who longs to return to the ring where he once was a child prodigy, in hopes of making something of himself and starting his life over again. Director Scheurmann privately raised the $10,000 to make this film by getting a job on the rigs in Alberta. FILMMAKERS in ATTENDANCE. Also won People's Choice Award at Calgary International Film Festival 2008.

A free panel/discussion will be offered Saturday, Oct. 3rd at 1:30pm at the Black Knight Inn.
Various independent film producers and directors from the Alberta Film Community will talk and be available to answer questions about what it takes to make films in Alberta, including how to fund your films, how to sell your films and how to get into the Industry in Alberta.
Sunday Oct 4th: 2pm to 4pm, Red Deer Public Library

Partnered by the National Film Board of Canada
some of the best Animated Films from the National Film Board will be presented as part of a Free Family Screening at the Red Deer Public Library.

CANADIAN/INTERNATIONAL SHORTS
A Program of some more of the Best short films from the rest of Canada and from around the World. After screening Academy Award Nominated Short Film 'Auf der Strecke' last year, we've searched high and low to try to top the program. We hope you come out and enjoy a wild variety of shorts from around the world, including Canada's own Zombie curling film 'DEADSPIEL,' and Sundance winner, ATTACK OF THE ROBOTS FROM NEBULA 5.
